The number of drones entering the market continues to grow.

From toys to videography and mission specific drones-built-for-purpose, the number of drones continues to expand and diversify. And while prices have decreased for entry level drones, the cost of buying a drone remains a significant investment, especially if it’s to be used in a professional context.

Here’s our top list of drones to consider for both entry level pilots and a look at some of the innovative and professional grade drones designed for mining, security, agriculture inspections, and more used, worldwide. At RocketDNA our instructors have access and experience with these unique drones.

Weighing only 80g, the Tello packs a lot of fun and maneuverability in its tiny frame.

Featuring a 13-minute flight time, while its downward facing sensors enable it to do tricks. It’s small 5mp camera sensor limits its applications and video feed is also limited to 720 HP and the quality is quite choppy. Moreover, while the range is a theoretical 100m to Smartphone, it’s more like 30 meters. While it gets outshone by pricier and more nimble competitors, the Tello is a fun starter drone that makes it an ideal first-time drone.

DJI PHANTOM 4 PRO V2

The DJI Phantom drone series that are arguably responsible for the company’s success globally and the uptake of the consumer and entry level drones for business. A sturdy and reliable platform, the Phantom Pro 4 Pro V2.0 is an upgrade on the Phantom 4 model. Added features include obstacle avoidance and intelligent flight modes like active track. Its big 20MP sensor raw files and 4k/60 p and 100mbps. While its 1,375g size makes it bigger and less portable than the portable Mavic 2 Air, it also provides a higher 4k frame rate.

Also, easy to fly and combining a 30-minutes endurance, the Phantom 4 Pro v2, is the perfect platform to shoot quality stills in challenging

DJI INSPIRE 2

The Inspire 2 is a professional grade drone. Weighing 3,440g the Inspire model has a large 30mp sensor, 25 minutes of flight times and a range of 7km. Attractively designed, the Inspire 2 is equipped with advanced collisions avoidance technology to ensure your pricey drone remains protected. sensefly eBee X

With more than 1,000,000 successful flights around the world, senseFly’s fixed-wing drones are proven for their unmatched operational safety and ability to deliver high-quality data, from simple to complex missions.

The preferred drone for surveying and GIS mapping, the eBee provides 90 minutes of flight time and accuracy of up to 1.5cm and can handle multiple sensors. Weighing less than 3.5kgs, the eBee can handle 9 different types of camera and sensors including RGB, thermal and multi-spectral sensors.

THE QUANTUM-SYSTEMS F90

Developed in Germany, the Quantum -System F90 is an e-Vtol take-off and landing fixed wing drone that sets a new bar in drone operations.

In comparison to multi-copter drones and fixed wing drones like the Ebee, the F90 is a leap for drone surveyors and operators and provides more endurance and capability. With a flight time of up to 90 minutes, the F90 is able to cover more ground faster than its competitors and can be deployed anywhere. The recent addition of the Qube 240 LiDAR sensor has further elevated the F90 as a multi-sector tool for serious professional services. With a maximum flight range of 100km, a 7,5km command and control and able to survey more than 700 Hectares in 90 minutes, the F90 is a remarkable and professional grade aircraft.

THE DJI M30 & DOCK

The Ultimate Enterprise Solutions for Professionals

Announced on 22 March, The DJI M30 and DJI Dock is an all-in-one solution for professional drone operators. Designed as a portable drone-in-a-box solution and weighing just 3.7kgs , it enables fully remote operations as Beyond Visual Line on Sight Operations (BVLOS) is increasingly a priority.

Able to fit in a backpack, the drone integrates multiple sensors into one payload and provides exceptional power, endurance and capability for professional uses. It’s size and foldable design makes it easy for transportation and deployment.

The M30 integrates a 48 megapixel 1/2” CMOS sensor zoom camera with 5×~16× optical and 200× digital zoom, a 12 megapixel wide-angle camera, 8k photo 4K/30 fps video resolution, and a laser rangefinder which can give the precise coordinates of objects up to 1,200 meters away. The M30T features an additional 640×512 px radiometric thermal camera.

The M30 is rugged and can operate in harsh environments, including heavy rains, high winds, high altitudes, even in icy and snowy conditions and extreme temperatures from -20° C to 50° C.

The DJI Dock is an autonomous takeoff, landing and charging station allowing fully automatic, programmed flights with the DJI M30 Series (Dock Version). It widens the horizon for automated missions that can be monitored and supervised remotely. After setup, the fully charged M30 drone can take off to the skies from the DJI Dock through FlightHub 2 programmed automatic missions anywhere within a 7 km radius.
